James was born to Angie and Jeff Lafferty, who own a local construction business in Hemet, California. Ever since his childhood, his mother has encouraged him and his brother to take up acting as side career. At school, James was an excellent basketball player and has also won an MVP award and an All-League award. At the age of ten James got his first acting assignment in the series, ‘Emeril’, where he played the role of Emeril’s son. But the series was soon cancelled. He was then successful in getting some guest roles in series like‘Once and Again’, ‘Get Real’, and ‘Boston Public.’ James has also worked in a movie, named ‘A Season on the Brink’, which basically revolved around basketball.

 

 

The moment James passed out from high school he was cast as Nathan Scott on ‘One Tree Hill.’ And most probably the actor has acclaimed maximum popularity while playing the character of Nathan. In the series, he plays Nathan, the son of Dan and Deb and Half brother to Lucas. Nathan is famous all over Tree Hill, because he is the star player of the Ravens basketball team. In the season finale of the first season he gets married to Haley.

 

Coming to his personal life, James is going around with Sophia Bush, his co-star in the series One Tree Hill. Sophia is also the ex-wife of Chad. James is currently living in Wilmington, North Carolina. The actor even today has not left his passion for sports and in his free time he plays sports. In fact in 2008, he played for the New Orleans Hornets at the 2008 NBA All-Star Game. He is a supporting partner of the professional basketball team, the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, which is a part of the Premier Basketball League.
